01 — What it consists of
An aggregate graded to 6F2 requirements and composed of crushed concrete, brick and mortar, produced as a by-product of demolition. Known in the trade as 6F2 Recycled Capping or Crusher Run.
Sizes range from 100mm down to dust. The term 6F2 Capping varies by supplier; we find 100mm Crusher Run is a good general-purpose aggregate for starter layers. The coarse nature of 6F2 makes it an all-in-one product that, when compacted, forms a solid base.
The bulk of the mix — angular, load-bearing.
Terracotta fragments that bind as it compacts.
Fines that fill the voids down to dust.
02 — Ideal for
6F2 Capping is mainly used as a sub-base for tracks and buildings. It has many other uses, piling mats and general backfill among them.
A compacted pad that takes the weight of plant and vehicles.
A coarse starter layer for site tracks that need to hold.
The first hardcore layer before a Type 1 finish.
A working platform that spreads load over poor ground.
03 — How to use it
6F2 is ideal as an initial layer of hardcore before being finished off with a layer of Type 1 sized material. The coarse grading locks together under compaction and gives the finish something solid to sit on.
